Granola Bites to Boost Your Immune System

Okay, so you guys know that I love my essential oils and that I use them every day. These granola bites are a great way to get On Guard blend from DoTerra into your little one’s system with a tasty snack! The On Guard blend from DoTerra is great for protecting your family against environmental and seasonal threats. Whenever I feel like I’m getting the sniffles or a sore throat I just drop a couple of drops under my tongue. But it’s a really intense flavor and for real burns a bit. If you’ve ever had a shot of alcohol it’s not worse than that 🙂 and although DoTerra has great little On Guard beadlets, I don’t have any at the moment to give to my kids–so I make these! and they LOVE them.

Granola Bites

Making the granola is super easy. You can follow this tutorialbut there are a few differences so keep reading!

You’ll need:

  • 4 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup oil (I’ve used olive, canola, peanut, it  doesn’t seem to matter)
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 TBSP chia seeds (optional)
  • 1/3 cup sliced or chopped almonds (optional)
  • 2-3 drops On Guard blend from DoTerra (add this during the last 15 minutes of baking)

Combine all ingredients and stir until the honey and oil coat everything. Bake in the oven at 325 F for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes to prevent burning and to help it cook evenly. Granola should be browned when it’s done–if it’s not, stick it in the oven for another 5-15 minutes.

Once cooked, let cool for a minute then using rubber gloves shape the granola into balls. If you don’t have the rubber gloves you can also use plastic bags—just find a way to protect your hands because this stuff is HOT.

Let them cool and they will harden a bit and hold their shape, but still be soft enough to bite. Both my 2 and 5 year old love them!

I usually make a double batch just because I end up “sharing” them…and by “sharing” I mean, my siblings come over and eat a quarter of them 🙂

This is just a very basic granola recipe. You can make it more exciting by adding your favorite things; shredded coconut, or almonds, or basically anything you want. I love to dip one of these balls in my yogurt too. So yummy!

If you don’t have On Guard in your life you definitely need it! Message me (hello @ folkandco.com) to figure out how to get 25% off this immune boosting blend!
