On Guard essential oil blend by DoTerra is a great “protective blend” adding extra support to your immune system. Plus, it kind of smell a bit like Christmas with the cinnamon and wild orange smell.
If you’ve seen my Handmade Apothecary series then you know that people wonder about the cost of DoTerra essential oils; are you really getting your money’s worth? This series will cover the ten most popular oils that come in a kit and will show you how much you can actually do with your 15 mL bottle of essential oil (I’m basing my evaluation on the Home Essentials kit which comes with 10 essential oils in 15 mL bottles, excluding Deep Blue which only comes in a 5 mL bottle. Each 15 mL bottle has approximately 250 drops and a 5 mL has about 85 drops). Be sure to read the disclaimer if you haven’t already!

On Guard essential oil blend—handmade apothecary
Some of these DIY will require additional essential oils included in the kit. So when you buy a kit, you can make all of these things without needing to buy more oils. Recipes that include oils that are not included in the kit will be marked with a * and have a variation to suit the oils in your kit.
Icky sicky blend: Are you guys sick of my weird names yet? Funky gunk, icky sicky…but guys, I can’t use real sicknesses or diseases when I talk about oils because the FDA doesn’t like it. So I apologize for the weird names. Anyway, this blend can be used as a preventative measure against illness during the sick season and when you’re actually sick. Fun fact: oregano is my go to oil when I’m sick. Some people don’t like the smell, but it helps my achy body when I feel gross. I love it. Using the roller blend tutorial, you can make your own roller for this; just use 30 drops On Guard essential oil blend and 10 drops oregano. If you’re using this on your kids I suggest putting it on the bottom of their feet or along their spine so they can’t touch it.
Non-toxic cleaner: I literally clean my house with nothing more than white vinegar and essential oils, with the occasional dish soap. I mostly use lemon for cleaning, but you can also use On Guard. You’ll need a 16 oz glass spray bottle filled with white vinegar and add 20 drops On-Guard. Shake before use, spray on the surface and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping down. FYI, DoTerra does have On-Guard cleaner that you can buy, but this DIY works great too.
Immune support granola balls: I don’t know about you, but I love homemade granola, and I discovered how to make my homemade granola into immune boosting snacks for my kids! Follow this tutorial and you’ll only use 3 drops of On Guard.
Easy infused-honey: I like to drink this detox tea in the fall and winter (you can ice it for summer months!). Since the original blog post I’ve been adding my On Guard to honey to make my life easier when making the tea. I just add 1 drop of On Guard to a cup of honey and add a teaspoon to my drink.
On Guard essential oil blend breakdown
A bottle of On Guard essential oil costs $32 (wholesale). There are approximately 250 drops in a 15 mL bottle. IF you made everything in this post, you just used 54 drops of On Guard essential oil, which means you still have 196 drops left. Guys, that’s more than half a bottle. You just handmade all of these beautiful things for your home and apothecary and you STILL HAVE OIL LEFT. On Guard is great for diffusing daily too! So even if you made all of the things on this list you could still diffuse three drops of On Guard every day for the next two months.
And guess what? You don’t even have to make all of these things—just make the ones you want or need! Which one is on your list?
