How our thoughts affect our physical body: You can heal your life

“I’m not good enough”—it’s the root of all our toxic thoughts.

I started reading “You can heal your life” by Louise Hay the other day, though I’ve had it for almost 8 months. I guess I wasn’t ready to read it. The idea is that our thoughts create our reality, including disease in the body, with resentment, criticism, and guilt causing the most damage. And so many of us feel like we aren’t enough—we’ve taken the criticism from our past and let it stay with us because it feels like HOME. and we just keep living in this cycle of whatever toxic thought we’re harboring. BUT if we can release it, we can heal our bodies. Sounds made up right? Maybe.

But if you understand that your emotions are chemical messengers, you also understand that your emotions are not limited to your heart or mind and can travel through your body.

Now I know that body weight is a sensitive issue—and I am all for being comfortable in your body, no matter the size. But if you’re holding extra weight that you don’t want to be, even though you’ve tried everything to get rid of it and your hormones show up fine and you’re exercising—maybe it’s your emotions.

According to Louise Hay, excess weight “often represents fear and shows a need for protection. Fear may be a cover for hidden anger and a resistance to forgive.” Extra weight around your thighs? That may be rooted in “packed” childhood anger. Your arms? Anger at being denied love. Hips? anger at your parents.

And it’s more than just excess weight; you create every dis-ease in your body.

For example; when I get nervous or when something makes me really, really angry, I sometimes get hit with nausea out of nowhere. And nausea? That’s rooted in fear or rejecting an experience.

Knee problems: stubborn ego and pride (sometimes my knees “flare up” and now I’m over here like ohhhh lol)

If you often have a sore throat, your voice cracks, wavers, or feels caught, then this is caused by the inability to speak up for yourself, stifling your anger or creativity, or refusing to change.

Now, the law of attraction blows my mind, and sometimes it’s hard for me to accept that I am the literal cause of every negative thing that comes into my life. BUT what if just for a second, I took ownership of that and said, ‘yes, I am the cause, and now I know I am also the solution’? and since we create dis-ease through our thoughts, what if you can heal your life simply by changing your thoughts?

It’s worth a shot.

Louise Hays has affirmations to use for a variety of ailments listed in her book. For excess weight the affirmation is:

“I am protected by Divine Love. I am always safe and secure. I am willing to grow up and take responsibility for my life. I forgive others, and now I create my own life the way I want it. I am safe.”

Just today I started using, “I am willing to release control” and my digestive system worked much better than usual! Maybe it was just a chance thing, but I’m going to be focusing on my toxic thought cycle for the next little bit to see where things go.
